How to download a public Instagram Reel

By Sachin Chauhan · Updated 16 October 2026

You can use ReelDrop to save a public Instagram video that you own or have permission to download. The current tool supports videos and Reels. It does not download private posts or photo-only posts, and it never asks for an Instagram password.

1. Copy the link to the video

Open the specific Reel or video in Instagram. Use its share menu to find the option to copy the link. Menu wording can vary between the app and website. A post link normally contains /reel/ or /p/ followed by a post identifier. A profile link alone does not identify a video.

2. Paste it into ReelDrop

Return to the Instagram video downloader, paste the link into the input, and select Download video. You can paste manually if your browser does not allow the Paste button to read the clipboard.

3. Let the download finish

For a single video, ReelDrop fetches the file and starts the browser download on the same page. Keep the page open while it says Downloading. For a post with several videos, select the video you want using its download button.

Where is the saved video?

Check your browser's Downloads list first. Depending on your device, the file may appear in the Downloads folder, Files app, or a location you chose in a save dialog. A saved MP4 is not always added to a phone's photo gallery automatically.

Quality and access limits

The available MP4 quality depends on the source video and what Instagram makes accessible. ReelDrop does not upscale videos. Public posts can still fail because of rate limits, removals, regional restrictions, or temporary access changes. A download option does not transfer the creator's rights to you.

If a video will not save, use the download troubleshooting guide. Hindi instructions are available in our हिन्दी गाइड.
